In a historic move for Crown Villa, Jans Christenson has become the first player to join the adult soccer club based in downtown Kansas City. The team is set to make its debut in the Select League this April, marking the beginning of an exciting chapter for both the club and the league itself.
Jans, a seasoned right back, brings a wealth of experience and a deep connection to the local soccer community. Growing up in the heart of Kansas City, he credits the vibrant soccer culture in the area for shaping his passion for the game. In an exclusive interview, Jans shared his thoughts on representing Crown Villa and the significance of his journey.
"Kansas City is a great soccer town and has a lot of grassroots clubs, especially at the youth level that allowed me to not only learn the game but grow my love for it," said Jans. "It's great to see the game growing, and I think you see that in the growing number of adult soccer leagues that allow people who love the game to continue playing. I'm excited about the opportunity to join a new league and a new team that allows me to continue playing."
When asked about a memorable moment from his soccer journey, Jans reflected on playing in the USYSA National Championship game for the Sporting KC youth academy. Despite a 1-0 loss to Solar from Dallas, the experience proved invaluable. "Competing at the highest level and the coaches I was fortunate to have taught me a lot in regards to positioning, passing patterns, and movements that made me an overall smarter soccer player."
Now, as the new right back for Crown Villa, Jans is eager to contribute his knowledge and skills to the team's success in the inaugural season of the Select League. At 35, he believes his experience will play a crucial role in enhancing the squad's performance.
"I think I'll bring a lot of the knowledge and experience I've gained throughout the years from playing and being coached at a high level," said Jans, emphasizing his commitment to elevating Crown Villa's standing in the Select League.
