Algeria became the first nation to secure a spot in the Semi-Finals after playing to a 1-1 draw against Gambia. The Gambians scored early in the first half, and a win would have propelled them into the next round. Algeria had other ideas when player scored the equalizer in the second half. Algeria will either win their group or take second depending on the Brazil - England outcome.
In the first match of the day, the USA and India squared off in a fairly lopsided beginning. Only 8 players for the USA showed up for the match and the team was given the choice to play short or forfeit; they chose to play short. It was surprisingly close much of the first half. India scored first,
but then the USA tied it up with a penalty shot. India scored again before the half, going up 2-1. The second half brought on a miracle of sorts when the USA tied it up and then took the lead before time expired. The final was 3-2.
There was some controversy to this win as the late start was subtracted from the first half 45 minutes. This decreased the entire time of the game which favored the USA with no subs and short far greater than India who had their full team with substitutions.
Germany was looking to capture a spot in the semifinals by topping Haiti who had something to
prove coming off of their loss against India. This game was highly competitive and went back and forth. It really was up for grabs as both teams traded goals throughout. In the end, Haiti topped Germany 5-4.
Currently every team in Group A has 3 points with a single game left. Goal differential gives India the top spot at +2, Germany in second with +1, USA in third with -1 and Haiti in fourth with -2. Group A will come all down to this weekend as Germany - India face off and USA - Haiti face off.
