Women’s Elite Soccer League Aims for Summer Kickoff in Kansas City

Kansas City, MO — A new chapter in Kansas City soccer is on the horizon as the Kansas City Association Football Federation (KCAFF) introduces the Women’s Elite Soccer League (WESL), a competitive amateur league for adult women across the metro area.

Set to follow full FIFA rules with 11 v 11 outdoor matches, WESL is built on a community-based club model, with each team hosting matches at its own home pitch. The league is open to women 18 and older and is actively seeking players, coaches, and even a league-wide General Manager to help bring the vision to life.

Four founding clubs are already on the books: Armory, Leawood Forest, Northland FC, and Real Overland Park. With growing interest, there’s a possibility the inaugural season could kick off as soon as early June 2025. If not enough signups are secured in time, the league will look toward a full launch in 2026.

“This is a league built by and for women who want to play the game at a serious level,” said a spokesperson for KCAFF. “We’ve got the clubs and the structure in place. Now we’re calling on Kansas City’s soccer community to step up and help us bring it to life.”

Players can expect costs to include a $25 player sanctioning fee (which includes insurance), club-specific home and away kits, and a share of field and referee fees, which vary depending on each club's setup and facility rental costs.

Word of mouth is the best way to grow the game. Whether you're a player eager to get back on the field, a coach looking for a team, or someone with league management experience, WESL is calling on the KC community to get involved.
