Kenya Makes 10

KCAFF is on the move once again, adding yet another international team. Kenya becomes the 10th national team to join KCAFF, and while they are new to KCAFF, they are by no means a new team. We spoke with Oscar Juma of the team and asked him for a little background into the local Kenyan football team.

"The KC Kenyan team has been together since 1999 and we've been playing the local African teams since then. As the team got older, our participation in the local leagues dwindled and we were not active as much. Now, we have a younger generation of Kenyan soccer players that are yearning to play some sort of competitive soccer. Being in this league will help the Kenyans around Kansas City achieve this objective. I have been tasked with the mandate to help raise a Kenyan team that will not only compete on the football field, but also bring out the Kenyan and African community together. Soccer/ football has the power to do that."

Juma's ideals are a perfect fit for KCAFF and our idea of using football to bring people together and celebrate the wonderful cultures of the world and our local area. Football has a massive popularity in Kenya.

"Football / soccer is one of the biggest, if not, the biggest sport in Kenya. Kenyans are very passionate when it comes to football. It has opened so many doors to many Kenyan players that would have otherwise never been possible.

Look for Kenya to be playing in their first scheduled friendly in the near future and also in next year's KC Africa Cup of Nations.
