Wichita Oberliga: A New Chapter for Kansas Soccer Inspired by German Tradition

The Kansas City Association Football Federation (KCAFF) is proud to announce the creation of a brand-new competitive league for adult men in the Wichita metro area: the Wichita Oberliga. Designed as a community-focused 11 v 11 outdoor amateur league, the Oberliga will bring the spirit and tradition of German football to the heart of Kansas, offering a unique and spirited playing experience for local players and fans alike.

A League Rooted in Tradition and Community

Taking inspiration from the storied Bundesliga, the Wichita Oberliga aims to blend competitive football with deep community engagement. With Wichita's own early German heritage as a historical foundation, the league embraces the German model of club structure and supporter involvement. Each team—referred to using the German word Fußballverein (football club)—will be owned and operated by a combination of private individuals and passionate supporters, with the supporters holding a majority 51% ownership stake in each club. This model ensures that the heart of every club is the community itself.

What to Expect

The Wichita Oberliga will be an amateur but highly organized competition, catering to adult men seeking a serious but locally grounded league. The season format and match schedule will be finalized once enough teams are confirmed, but KCAFF is currently seeking to launch the league with between 6 to 10 clubs for the inaugural campaign.

All matches will take place within Wichita and its immediate surroundings, with the goal of keeping travel light and local pride strong. From matchday atmospheres to grassroots ownership, every aspect of the Oberliga will be designed to grow the game from the ground up.
