LS Athletic Football Club is in search of a new owner or ownership group following the departure of current owner, Ellyh Komabou. After taking ownership of the club in the middle of the 2024 season, Komabou has decided to step down. The club extends its heartfelt thanks to Ellyh for his hard work and dedication during his tenure, guiding LS Athletic through an important phase of its journey.
Now, as LS Athletic prepares for the 2025 season, the club is exploring an exciting new chapter with the potential for community-led ownership. The idea of supporter ownership is gaining traction, with hopes that it could serve as a defining moment for both the club and the community of Lee's Summit.
"For LS Athletic to be supporter-owned would be a huge step in bringing the community and the club together as a point of pride," said KCAFF President Brandon Fisher. "LS Athletic is the first, and to date, only club that we've really tried pushing this ownership concept with."
This innovative ownership model, where paying supporters would have a direct stake in the club, could foster a deeper connection between LS Athletic and its fans, enhancing the club’s role as a hub for the community. However, the league remains open to the possibility of private ownership, welcoming interest from individuals or groups ready to take on the role.
The cost to take over LS Athletic, at this time, is primarily the new owner's time and dedication. The club is already backed by a primary sponsor for the next two seasons, making it an almost turnkey operation. This offers a rare opportunity for the new owner(s) to shape the club’s future and build a team that reflects the spirit and passion of the Lee's Summit community.
Whether supporter-led or privately owned, this transition is seen as a crucial step in solidifying LS Athletic's presence within the local soccer scene.
